Homes and members
How do I invite someone to my home?
Settings โ tap your home โ Invite Member, then enter their email address. They'll see the invitation under Settings โ Invitations the next time they open the app. They need a HomeStox account with that same email address for it to reach them.
I invited someone but they can't see the invitation.
Almost always an email mismatch โ the invitation is tied to the exact address you typed. Check for typos, and confirm they signed up with that address rather than a different one. Cancel and re-send it to the right address if needed.
Can I belong to more than one home?
Yes. Create or join as many as you like โ a flat, a parents' house, a holiday place โ and switch between them from Settings. Each home has completely separate inventory.
What's the difference between an owner and a member?
Owners can rename the home, remove members, and delete the home. Members can do everything else: add and edit items, record purchases, and view history. Whoever creates a home is its owner.
What happens to my home if the owner deletes their account?
If other members remain, the home survives and ownership passes automatically to the longest-standing member. If the owner was the only member, the home and its contents are deleted with the account.
Notifications
I'm not receiving any notifications.
- Check that you allowed notifications when the app asked. If you declined, re-enable them in Android Settings โ Apps โ HomeStox โ Notifications.
- Confirm you're actually in a home with other people โ HomeStox only notifies you about changes made by other members, never your own.
- Check battery optimisation isn't restricting the app in the background.
- Sign out and back in, which re-registers your device.
Still nothing? Email us with your device model and Android version.
Can I turn notifications off?
Yes โ turn them off for HomeStox in Android Settings at any time. The in-app activity feed keeps working regardless.
Account
I forgot my password.
Tap Forgot password on the login screen and enter your account email. Check your spam folder if the message doesn't arrive within a few minutes.
How do I change my display name?
Settings โ tap the pencil icon next to your name. This is the name other members of your homes see.
How do I delete my account?
Settings โ Danger Zone โ Delete Account. It's permanent and immediate. Full details of what gets removed are on the Data Deletion page.
Data and privacy
Who can see what I add?
Every member of the home you added it to โ that's the point of a shared home. Nobody outside that home can see it. The Privacy Policy covers this in detail.
Does HomeStox work offline?
Recently loaded data stays visible offline, but changes need a connection to sync to the rest of your household. You'll want to be online when adding or updating items.
Is my data backed up?
Your data lives on our servers rather than only on your device, so it survives losing or changing phones โ sign in on the new device and it's there. That said, HomeStox is a household inventory app, not a system of record: don't rely on it as your only copy of anything important.
